LASIK
Are glasses or contact lenses uncomfortable, inconvenient or hindering your active lifestyle? LASIK vision correction could be right for you!
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In situ Keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure that reduces dependence on glasses or contacts by reshaping the cornea with an excimer laser. Since FDA approval in 1995, millions worldwide have had LASIK, including celebrities like Brad Pitt, Tiger Woods, and Taylor Swift.
Over 90% of patients achieve 20/20 vision or better, with more than 95% satisfied with their LASIK results.
What to Expect:
Before the Procedure
Dr. Vakharia will conduct a free and thorough consultation and eye examination to learn about your options and ask any questions. The preoperative evaluation includes five different precise vision measurements, and all of this data is then used to accurately program the laser for your procedure.
The Procedure
Expect to spend around 90 minutes at New Vision Laser Center on the day of your procedure. You'll receive various eye drops including numbing drops, and if desired, Valium to ease anxiety. Then you'll be reclined in the laser suite. Dr. Vakharia and two laser technicians will be there to guide you. A third technician is present solely to talk you through the procedure and ensure your comfort. The procedure takes approximately ten minutes per eye and most patients experience minimal pain or discomfort.
During the process, a flap is made in the cornea and folded back to expose the central cornea. You'll focus on a flashing light for about 30 seconds to one minute while a laser reshapes the cornea. The flap is then repositioned and naturally heals in place. After healing your cornea will focus light accurately, freeing you from the need for glasses or contact lenses.
After the Procedure
Following your procedure, clear protective shields will be placed over your eyes and you'll be driven home to rest. The next day you'll have an appointment with Dr. Vakharia. Most patients can see well enough to drive themselves to this appointment and return to work on the same day. Less than 5% of patients might need an enhancement procedure months after surgery to fine-tune their vision, which is included in the initial fee if necessary.
Over 95% of LASIK patients are highly satisfied with the results.
